Hiding Hollow Eyes

by JJ Johnson

She lives in a fantasy world
dreaming from within her pretend life

She told me I was the one
to be the father and she would be the wife

She fell asleep where the weaver wove
a dream of silk and softer skies

She lost her way and forgot my name
then turned away to hide her hollow eyes

I wanted so badly to believe this love
was more than mere fleeting dreams

I was willing to close my eyes
let the weaver sew me in between the seems

I would have made children with her
and been her San Franciscan Knight

I told her you can't turn left there
but that don't matter 'cos everything's alright

The hidden trouble was,
not a word from her was true and she never knew

The story in her was written
while she slept between breezes that never blew

The love she tried to give was a fever
escaping her pores in droplets of passionate sweat

The future we planned was all in the mind
of the wanton lover that I never met

Is he rich enough to recover
from the drain all your sucking will do to his wealth?

Is he young enough to discover
new love after he finds all was stolen using stealth?

Is he wise enough to realize
that before he's dead all his dreams have got to go?

Is he strong enough to take
the crushing blow when he learns all he don't really know?
