But Does God Trust in US?

by JJ Johnson

It hurts to see what
This country has become
America's transformed into
One red financial sum

I knew mine were bad
But ours keep growing worse
Greed has rejected me and now
I'm wishing for it's curse

My take home pay won’t
Pay bus fair to take me home
And the Almighty Dollar shouts
"PAY BACK YOUR COLLEGE LOAN!"

America and I
Share a common link
We can't seem to make our debts
Go away or even shrink

For all I give to them
We should be more close
If I could net my gross pay
Life would be no less morose

There's so much at stake
in our financial war
But what have I to lose?
I can't afford steak anymore!

My mop's a mess and it’s
Growing two too long
But I can't pay for a coiffure
And I've lost my broken comb

What they say is true
That nice guys finish last
My bills are way ahead of me
And interest's gaining fast

Should I run away or
Cross the finish line?
I'm still afraid they will
Take away everything that's mine

Yet I'll never let them
Take away my songs
I won't ever sell out
In exchange for all my wrongs

Author's Note: This is another poem I never felt was finished, or good enough as is. The question in the title was a sarcastic questioning of why we put "In God We Trust" on money, because God indeed has nothing to do with money. Why is it only on money when there are so many things we could claim God for? That is my problem with the pledge of allegiance as well. When we say "One Nation, Under God", we are claiming God and saying to other countries, our nation is under God, but not yours. God should not be in our pledge or on our money because God is not concerned with money and God does not hold our nation in higher esteem than any other. We must stop claiming God as America's own. God blesses all nations and we don't need to say God bless America. If God does bless America, we can't make him bless us any more than he already does. And I am not claiming God by saying HE, as if God is definitely male. I am not going to try to find some politically correct androgynous word at this point in life. JJ

To answer the title - no. But the poem has very little to do with God. God is not tied to money. But God is tied to prosperity. And there are many versions of prosperity.
