The Man I Am No One Else Knows

by JJ Johnson

What is it about all the girls I meet?
They all love to like me
But no one wants to love me
They act afraid yet say
I'm too nice a guy
So if I'm such a nice guy
I have to question why
Why my heart and mind
Must constantly compete

They call whenever there's something wrong
Not knowing what to do
But I've no one to talk to
I can't handle everyone
Else's problems now
I have enough of my own
Too many of my own
And the change I want to make
Has waited far too long

I'll never be able to win this war
To do so means to change
And I cannot rearrange
Not without risking
Becoming someone else
But if one thousand girls
Put me through one thousand Hells
I'd rather be the man
I never was before

...jj, the whole poem kicks...but man you tie it up so wonderfully with the last line, so existential, so heavy...we all want to be ... ahhh, someone--and yet in a walter mitty fashion or george plimpton...but, i know you are quite adept at "being" after all...well stated state o' affairs de orbe de nowadays...great write...peace, chaz
