Light a Match, For I Deserve to Burn

by Amanda L Marron

What is it that flickers deep within your eyes?
I see you trying to hide it
Lurking in your mind

(a guilty conscience maybe?)

The "No Admittance" sign flickers in my face

(I'm talking to a brick wall)

You don't even look at me anymore
I'm just an asset now
No longer the most "important" person in the world to you
Just a doll on your shelf
Growing dusty as the days, months pass on

I tried to pretend that everything was okay

...I can't pretend anymore...

strange, isn't it? that we must struggle at un-pretending, because we've been taught and thumped and trained to pretend everything's alright, anything goes, and even *"No Admittance" signs* — are we to pretend these are not burns to our heart? Very well captured here. —Jill
