I Am Afraid of Feeling Afraid

by Rula Shin

I am in the grip of fear
Afraid of a likely situation
Existing only in the realm of mind
Limiting my perspective
Strangling my hopes

I am breathing life into fear
Shutting all the doors
Ever present in the moment
Burying me in a past, dead
Where lies fear, firm in my grip

Yes, the fear is always ’there’ and it’s not the fear, which holds us ‘here’ but it’s us who holds the fear there. The so called freedom is not sustainable unless we loosen our grips and let go this fear.
The projected fear is the fear of the fear. What?….. and we keep on projecting likely situations . The logic says that what may come, one is bound to face but logic is the doing of intellect where as the fear is driven by powerful energies, holding us stuck to our pasts. And the so called future is nothing but the projection of the past. Fear of the fear is projection of this fear registered deep within. The thoughts generating from this fear is like
‘breathing life into fear
Shutting all the doors’
Yes, all the doors, all the possibilities of being and seeing of getting connected to awareness. Life walks hand in hand with the time, not in the past, not in the projections of the past but in ever present timelessness. One cannot walk into time. One can only walk with the time and find LIFE within the spaces of time. I am happy to find this realization nicely depicted in this poem of yours.
Loosen your grip Rula Shin and rise in the lightness of your BEING.

The paralysis of past controlling future - in some ways, we are the culmination of all our experience(s). We learn both potential and inhibition...perhaps, in negative mode, perspective is distorted, and/or exaggerated rather than limited. When the time for 'action' arrives, there will be only one scenario to be played out...and if one is 'true' to oneself, fear will be consigned to the graveyard of anticipation - until the next 'situation' looms ahead :)

fear is only as present as you are feeling insecure. confidence alone can kill all fear...but i liked this piece for its brutal honesty. admitting fear is 98% of the battle of getting past it. captured fantastically.

To quote Dune "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me."

Sorry, it is one of my favorite quotes and seems to fit so neatly in this piece. This verse is filled with wisdom and wonder. Great read.
