Happy

by David Bauman

What if, a compromise?
To avoid what you despise,
and stares at you with hateful eyes?
Is that what it means to be happy?

What if, a simple plan?
To be fine with what you can,
or live, just not as man.
Is that what it means to be happy?

I say right now
all these things
in the hopes I find
a pair of wings
to free myself
from the chains that bind
and soar.
Until I'm happy.

This seems somewhat bitter, but at the same time, it is quite lovely. I like that the last line of each stanza does not rhyme and sort of knocks us off balance.

...yea, david, we gotta compromise w/ the universe, 'cause it is/was 'one size fits all' it's just difficult to get our "sizing" done with all the alligators, eh?...i'm over here wondering if in fact we exist...but i'm busy "thinking" that we do, i go forward taking hints from the world around me, that in fact I AM...good write, peace, chaz
