Saussie

by Shonda Chrissonberry

her little feet
are no bigger than a quarter
each colored white
as if God painted on some socks
to keep her warm knowing how
small she would be

you see
she only weighs 6 pounds
but she sure packs alot into them

her matchstick of a tail
has a tip dipped in white
to compliment her socks
and that silly shaped diamond
placed just perfectly
on the top of her neck
completes her fawn color

she thinks she can win a fight
against a feline
i try to remind her of her size
but she never listens

she barks at the acorns that
bounces off the roof
as if warning me of impending doom

she shakes at claps of thunder
never leaving my side
reminding me that i am
her protector as well

sometimes she even sits
with me at my computer
helping me type
as she is doing now

and every time i arrive home
she meets me at the door
with a wag and a hop
placing a smile on my face

she is my tiny bundle of joy
as she has been for the past ten years
and i love her very much

Author's Note: Saussie is my chihuahua/feist mix. And yes, she along with her "brother" Squire rules. My dogs love me just the way I am!!
