Problem by Richard VinceIt's been a long time since
I last lay in bed at midnight
Listening to the radio and
Harsh words first heard some hours ago.
My heart refused to believe
The edited half truths offered
By my mind to try to explain
This disease of unnecessary instinct
As something harmless.
If anyone knew the true nature
Of this problem I try to confront,
I fear that they would not
Appreciate the seriousness
I assign to it. They would laugh,
Not thinking of how a brief,
Casual glance can become
A recurring nightmare for
The recipient.
And so I am left to
Ponder my problem, and
The problem I am to others,
Alone save for
Unfamiliar, disembodied voices
That fail to drown out
The sound of those words
As they repeat endlessly
In my mind's ear.

Posted by George Hoerner on 05/21/12 at 01:39 PM Very nice Vince and the mind's ear does play so many tricks. My wife says mine can't hear her but is in tune to everyone else! |
