The Last Time That I Saw Her

by Thomas K. Hunt

Her last sun set over the islands
Descending over the Canadian sky
Her pain had finally lifted
As she spread her wings to fly

The saline trails had all dried up
There were no more tears to cry
She gently closed her tired eyes
As she said her last good-bye

The last time that I saw her
We were down at the old hotel
A smile fell across her face
As we dipped into the well

We reminisced of days gone by
We shared a tear or two
She said she hoped to see me
The next time I passed through

I heard she made her way down south
She found some new sunshine
Hooked up with a long lost friend
I heard everything was fine

They tied the knot and were on there way
They had a baby girl
Everything was going great
As they stepped into their world

We lost touch as the years flew by
Separated by more than a mile
Her image living in my mind
Always made me smile

Then in a dream so vivid
She passed me in the night
All day long she was on my mind
Something didn’t feel right

That’s the day I got the call
I held that phone to my ear
A piece of me died right there
From the news that I would hear

I walked out in the morning sun
I thought about our time
I thought about her smiling face
And the peace now she would find

A perfectly shared story the way you have written this. This would be a great song...really!
