Red Wall

by Rebecca Lin

It lay in a corner
of a small brick house.
Flowers breathed in toxins outside.
People walked by in patterns-
just another facet of their pathetic existence.

The path was right and clear
and she stood there.
Quivering lip and little purse,
she stood in the
doorway that was half open,
as she was not fully put together.

The wall was cracked;
it bled for its sin.
She did a good job at
hiding her downfall,
but her lover's body
was still smeared
across the lilac-scented room
and her rosy hands.

this is a classic piece. accessible and interesting to all. tightly written without ego or excess. incredible lines...People walked by in patterns-... Quivering lip and little purse, (my fave. god, what an amazing image, it just solidifies the feeling so well, the vulnerability, and the inability to move...to become a statue, the wall itself....it bled for its sin -- yea! perfect!...and, i love surprise endings. all the more shocking because of how well you set me up! this is a classic piece. i wouldn't change a thing. my vote for POTD.
