turning

by Peter Humphreys

beneath
Ben Bulben's
frowning brow
I wondered
if
we would
and how
return to
happiness
once more
as you
walked
without
turning
out
that
door

The Yeats reference alone gives the reader a lot to bring to this poem. Art, spirituality, of course, coming of age. Few and simple words, yet heady and ponderous. Nice writing.

Peter - a beautifully written pondering. The answer, or lack thereof, to the "how" sometimes answers the "if" for you, doesn't it? This goes directly to my favourites - thank you for sharing it.
