Cat's Away by Jon-Jacob F DealToday while a nation of insurgents plotted to kill me,
A single man plotted to fuck my girlfriend.
Isn't that cute? I thought so, too.
But I'm okay with that, I really am.
I'm the proverbial Bigger Man.
While on one side of the world I poured sweat in a sandbag bunker
They poured coffee in a restaurant on the other.
What? That's fine, no, really, it is
I mean, I know what it's like to get lucky.
I didn't catch that mortar today, right?
And it's those rare pleasures that keep one going--
There's nothing quite like having an old friend for dinner. 06/12/2005 Posted on 10/30/2005 Copyright © 2024 Jon-Jacob F Deal

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 10/30/05 at 07:00 AM The irony in your poem is quite telling. Sounds like the narrator is trying to self-convince. I am not going to pretend I understand, because I don't & have never been where you are, but your poem brings out many good points.
