I Almost Forgot What Love Feels Like

by Amanda L Marron

I see your fist slam the table
And the yelled words startle me
Yet, I don'’t hear them
They're static in my clogging ears
I need straightened priorities
—Mine and yours—
Because I play your pawn
Wondering if you care
If the silent treatment
And brushing off my presence
Is your attempt at love, it'’s not essential
I hear words that imprison me with love
And actions that push me away with hate
The tears in my eyes know the truth
I only want you to confirm my reason for leaving.
