oooh and ahhh

by Angela Thomas

It feels like Christmas is tomorrow and I know that I'm getting
a big present. I'm going to pick you up at the airport and we'll
drive over the Queensborough Bridge into the city as the skyscrapers
climb up over the sky hand and foot into your vision. I'll drag

you onto a touristy double decker red bus and we'll hold hands
as we oooh and ahhh about all the history and past that is grounded
on my street corner. We'll dine like royalty and dance like superstars
because I always get the hook up. I can't wait to be sitting on the M66

crosstown bus with your hand weaighted down on my leg as we brush up
against all the strangers around us. It kind of feels like someone
put a giant helium balloon inside my chest and they're trying to blow
it up. I might float away, I might explode, I might have to spend

the rest of my life with you just to wake up everyday feeling
like this. It feels like Christmas is arriving in gate D at 11:02AM.

I love this poem. Brimming with love and live, anticipation and joy. Nice writing.
