today

by Melinda Sordino

i too had a dream
of a world stolen
by bitter deception
and political lies.

i too had a dream
where love wasn't love
unless it was two people
of the opposite sex.

i too had a dream
of extraneous bloodshed
and the knock on a door-
another son dead.

i too had a dream
of screams in darkness
of young girls being
brutally deflowered.

i too had a dream
where i never wake up
and life keeps moving
without rhyme or reason.
