Shed Skin & Swallow Hard

by Trisha De Gracia

Take solace.
The venom has distilled itself
and sharp, it rolls away from this tongue.
The fangs have fallen away from the gums,
A silence that rings with requiem peals in my heart.

Lament,
there is silence inside of this heart
And a boldness that grows from the ashes of serpents,
exhiled from Eden, staked at Eve's white hands,
for all of their sins.
