Righthand Fork

by Leonard M Hawkes

We hunted here once
In the long, long ago
For the deer
For tradition
For manhood

For the wild land
Was vast here
Legendary
Lush
Alluring

But unfamiliar, we found
The hollows, the byways
Too steep
Too brushy
Too rough

And the drive was long
The chase was short
Casual
Confined
Ineffectual

And the "we" is gone, now
Scattered, infirm, passed on
Yet, alone
Still I honor
That Quest

Traditions and changes. I enjoyed this very much.
