Absence

by Jane E Pearce

I heard you went down to the lab

in a shiney bucket- still warm

from my body, to be mauled,

sliced, and examined,

while I slept blissfully,

not missing you yet.

.

You were invaded with evil

that would have devoured us both,

but the abyss you left, and the pain

in my chest reminds me of my loss-

oh yes, you are missed.
