Obligatory

by Corey Drover

From sorry to thank you and much in between
We say all this hogwash we don't always mean
From socks at christmas to Fathers Day ties
We just can't help spewing silver tongued lies

We're weak and we're lost in societies norms
Obliging their feelings in all of their forms
This isn't to say that it's false every time
But not being happy isn't a crime

If you had your reasons don't apologize
Over fear that you'll see that look in their eyes
It's so out of fashion to do what you wanted
Live life to the fullest and don't feel haunted

Their feelings are valued but what about yours
Hiding your feelings behind those locked doors
There's no need to be cruel or even be crass
But the sunny side of life can go kiss my ass

False pride heaped around just because it's what's done
Like the liner notes of some current album
Some people believe that the feelings the thing
But you should have known better than to get me that ring

Great rhyme and flow. I enjoyed this.
