Travel Plans

by Jane E Pearce

Mom, turn down my bed,

Dad, polish that smile, roast

the corn, steam some clams,

I'll be along in a while.

.

There are a few more songs to sing.

more poetry to read, one or two

sunsets to paint, a brand new

grandchild to lead.

.

But my dress is frayed,

with loose buttons here or there,

seams stressed and stretched

almost beyond repair.

.

So Mom.turn down my bed,

Dad polish that smile, roast

the corn, steam some clams,

I'll be along in a while.

Beautiful Jane. So accessible and therefore memorable. A wonderful scene.
