A Shadow By The Lake

by JJ Johnson

It's that day again, that forever afternoon
I'd forgotten all about it like two years ago
But yesterday someone reminded me too soon
And I think the book store is a better place to go

No one will notice if I'm in my spot or not
I'm sure you won't go to see if I show my face
And with my luck, just like the love I never got
I'm sure someone else will be there to take my place

There's no reason to go, not even old times sake
Tuesday night will never be a walk in the park
If only I could find a shadow by the lake
If not for all the lights I could hide in the dark

My heart knows all too well the sparks that made it blind
Of loves never fostered and friendships that erode
Reflections from the lake will invade my lost mind
With every burst of rockets glare my heart will explode
