Me 'n Schwarzenegger

by Ronald A Pavellas

I'm not losing weight, but
I AM transforming fat into muscle

Not bad for an old guy,
Still not ready to yield entirely
To sloth and gravity.

Standing, fronting a mirror,
If I suck my middle upward,
I can discern a hint of
The slim waist I once had.

It's a pleasant memory.

Three times per week for a month
Has helped me double the weights
I push and pull and lift
From when I started, slack, demoralized, determined.

Today, as I pulled the increased weight
From above down to chest level
I felt a kind of thrill in one upperback muscle
Which was still slightly sore from the previous session.

Is this how dedicated weight pumpers feel
All over their bodies?

Is this why Arnold Schwarzenegger
Seems so happy?

No Pav, I think it more has to do with Maria... Your prowess has always been disconcerting to me, physically and poetically.
