the first day of autumn

by Emily Davidson

it's the first day of autumn
and i woke up alone
as though both he and the equinox
feel my life should be
colder

and i run my fingers
over the phone
wanting to call and ask
if i could crawl in his bed
for awhile
just to smell him again

it's the first day of autumn
and i am alone

wow, what a powerful, tangible poem...i felt like i was right there in your bed whilst reading it, feeling what you were feeling...great job!

The middle stanza is raw and vivid. Good work.
