"Acrobatics"

by Max Phineas

Thinking we were invincible
We danced across the tightrope
The fire pit below merely making us perspire.

But the braided twine was disintegrating
And we did not see the ends start to fray.

The line dipped lower
Showing strain under our consciences' weight.

We never saw it coming
When our worlds came crashing down
Smashing the support beams underneath.

No life support available,
We never had a chance.
