Chocolate Almonds

by Trisha De Gracia

If you look you'll see the colours of my eyes
their depth
the way they see your face
your skin
your smile
The way the corners crinkle
oh so boldly at each corner
when you're laughing, sweet
or when your speaking in lashes
and tongues.

You'll see the way I saw you
golden
beautiful and growing
filling out that head of dreams
with hands and words
believing miracles
all miracles except our own...
you'll see yourself in silver light
and tainted technicolour heart.

You know I'll always love you.

I've said before
your smile will rest eternally
beneath my lids
and I will not be rid of you like this,
oh not like this at all
another mere catastophe can't keep me from your side
except

The place we were just wasn't worth the fight
the bloody drag of us,
not when I know you love me.
No,
not when I know you care,
regardless
(you should know I'll hold you 'til the end
if from a pointed distance).

Love, know this
I'll see you through that end
and back again
and maybe when
our smiles can mirror
arms can hold forever
never seems like death knolls ringing...

maybe then a part inside of you
can learn to keep the courage high
to see yourself
in chocolate almond eyes.
