N.I.M.H. Was Child's Play

by Amanda J Cobb

Someone, somewhere made the mistake
of arousing idle curiousity,
questioning the heavens as to whether
it is more painful to lose someone you love
suddenly, unexpectedly,
without a chance to say goodbye,
or to know it's coming well in advance,
dreading, fearful,
and helpless to change it.

I am merely the latest test subject
in a series of inconclusive experiments.
There is no answer,
just another question:

If we can only lose those we love,
then what is the point?
