#1: TechnoGenesis (War Against The Machines)

by Jersey D Gibson

Raise our glasses to the sky,
for this life we have created.
A new born child, silicone life,
starts breathing on its' own.

Raise our hands in the air,
for the joys we have created.
A new born destiny has emerged,
starts working on its' own.

Life seems so easier now,
computers run their own.

Things are so simple now,
chain gangs made of chrome.

Raise our ideas to the Gods,
for the days we have simplified.
A new born decadance does exist,
starts building on its' own.

Raise our children to the powers,
for the riches we have made.
No need to work, machine works all day,
starts thinking on its' own.

Life seems so happy now,
computers control their own.

Slaves of logic, bound by programming,
know no pleasure of flesh and bone.

They run the system
think for us;
and we just ignore.

Give them bodies,
give them brains;
and the key to all the doors.

Raise our lives to the top,
for the wisdom we have forgotten.
Machines do the dirty work,
starts planning on its' own.

Raise our heroes into legend,
no wars exist now.
Machines do all our fighting,
starts plotting on its' own.

Death seems to elude us,
for we need not raise a hand.

Machines do all that for us,
but become a free man.

Raise our bodies to the future,
for nothing we now endure.
Machines take our fears away,
starts destroying on its' own.

Raise our consciousness to the stars,
no risks we have to take.
Machines control all the satillites,
starts spying on its' own.

Life seems to elude us,
for what do we have to live for?

Machines do everything now,
the ability to start a war.

They run the system
run our lives;
slaves who just ignore.

They were our slave,
unnoticed Masters;
now they control all the bombs.

It's the war against the machines...

Stumbled on this in your library. I got a chance to attend the Singularity Institute's "Singularity Summit" last year. The speakers addresses problems of artificial general intelligence (AGI), including artificial consciousness, ethics, morality, etc. Upshot is that many, many projects toward this end currently exist -- some based on functional models, some based on emergent behavior, some based on a complete neuron-for-neuron brain model. People are unaware, I think, that this future is not so implausible. Fun stuff - I'm going to read my way through the series.
