topic: Capturing the Dawn

by Amanda L Marron

She's standing outside at 4 a.m.
Mason jar in hand
She tells me she's gonna capture the sun
She's going to try her hand at capturing the dawn
I glance at her face so full of innocence
Oblivious to the world

She's standing outside at 5 a.m.
Mason jar in hand
She tells me she's gonna capture the moon
She's going to try her hand at capturing the moon
I glance at her sunburned face
Scarred by the world

She's standing outside at 6 a.m.
Mason jar in hand
She tells me she's gonna capture the stars
She's going to try her hand at capturing the stars
I glance at her sunglass-covered eyes
Blinded by the world

She's standing outside at 7 a.m.
Mason jar in hand
She tells me she's gonna release her spirit
She's going to try her hand at releasing instead of capturing
I glance at her as she opens the jar
Relief and calm overcome

A strange haunting piece with a good resolution. I rather like this.
