Hopeless Romantics

by Kim Bennett

Why is it that hopeless romantics are normally the ones who end up alone?

Rose petals litter the minds of romantics.
Pure, plush scarlet flowers that scream cliché,
Ironic they symbolized colour of hate is also that of love.
Perhaps not as ironic as we wish it to be.

Hopeless romantics love beauty of images,
And
Finding beauty in only those they love.

The world is superficial.
MTV embodies that accusation.
People are brainwashed to believe relationships are made of
Breasts, muscles, and skin on bones.

I believed I was an exception.
I desire intellect.
Imagination along with thoughtfulness.
I want acceptance that all people are equal.
Not looks.

Only one side of the face.
I am brainwashed.

I am not beautiful.
I will always be alone.
I need to be what they say.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder,
And I am invisible.

I am a hypocrite.
I will only want a mind of those I love.
I need to be proven wrong

Everyone loves the physical not the mental.
Someone prove me wrong.

Author's Note: Not my best poem, but there's some emotion in there. I felt I had to write it, so I did.
