Boys

by Leonard M Hawkes

If I
With my human failing sight,
My imperfection,
My bias,
My prejudice,
My wanton wicked heart
Can See
The Beauty,
The Nobility,
The Honesty
That godly glorious
Self
That lies within:

Beneath
The foolishness of fashion,
The mutilation of custom,
The contortion of habit,
The canker of age,
That sheen of evil
Scabbed upon them
By the World;

Then surely,
Surely,
God sees the Goodness:

Sees and in due season
Will rescue:

Rescue,
Even
Me.
