The Trip

by Karl Waldbauer

I see the sun, a bright star shining
beckoning to you and to me.
You’ll say
“With a nuclear kiss
we will take the leap,
travel far beyond the Beyond.”
My green eyes will sparkle as I hold you close
just a quick hug to remind you I care, that I’ll always be there
on our trip beyond the stars.
A mere speck of light, a solar furnace at night
is only a signpost for us to see. Time will bend,
it will warp for our will,
it will show us our eternity.
When it’s time for the light, whether by day or night it will be tender, it will gently touch our souls.
“Are you ready, my friend, for I surely am, let’s bid our farewells while the light shines and beckons.”
Do we walk at a solemn pace though our hearts will race or go as we always have…with my smile and your grin?
Surely you will say as we depart
“How do you like my new walk?”
and I’ll laugh as I do, looking fondly at you, at your antics, staring deep into your heart.
As the light takes us in, through the cosmic din “I love you” will ring in your ears.
You will know for all days, in all of the ways, that I love you beyond all reckoning of time.
