you are guarded
in a constant shifting of your body
so that my eyes can never rest
or find a single comfort about you
you are guarded
behind patronizing tones
that make me feel as if
we are always meeting
for the first time
you are guarded
with your time frames
with straight lines
that lead to the point
you are guarded
behind your body
to allow us this pleasure
before quickly returning home
you are guarded
for the both of us
because my walls are sometimes doors
and my doors all have windows
you are guarded
from the pain I feel each time -
hollowing out my heart
to just be near you
you are guarded
from the words
that acknowledge
how stupid I've been
you are guarded
