Banana Tree

by Alison McKenzie

I realize finally that
I’ll never find it.
It’s like looking for a banana tree
In a frozen tundra land -
It will never be there!
I’ve misread the map all these years!
But today,
I turned it around and finally saw things
Right side up,
Taking note -
The error of my way.

I cannot love myself
By caring for another,
No matter how much they “need” me.
It just isn’t the way to self-love,
Neither finding someone that I “need.”

I know it’s just an extension of
The realization that
“Love is All There Is”
And it’s simply a matter
Of seeing the landscape
From the right angle,
Right angles being crucial
To the physics of soul joy.

Ms. McKenzie has now left the Tundra…

Alison, thanks for sharing your AHA moment. These thoughts may or may not mean anything to others, but they are certainly significant in personal growth. Loving yourself is actually productive, because others are attracted to the good feelings that are "exuded" (like perfume, I guess) ;-).

This is a great metaphor, interesting perspective... it is indeed a challenge to change one's course, eh? You need to fax me that map or something because I can't seem to get out of the dern tundra... ;-)
