Carousel by Kim BennettA smooth melody plays exquisitely;
Thunder trembles her heart as a herd of
Glowing spirits gallop, clouds underline,
Never reaching down, dancing high above.
Stoic animals, imprisoned by bars,
Frozen in time, a ballet of horses
Begging to be released, to dance with stars,
Still faces, empty eyes, they join forces,
Breaking the chains of utter confinement,
Unwheeling physics, space, the hand of time,
They begin to dance in the alignments
Spirits scatter, all singing the same chime,
Condemned for their actions, they rip the seam
Releasing reality into shattered dreams. 09/03/2005
Author's Note: A sonnet I wrote for my sister about two years ago. I realize the structure is a bit off with the "exquisitely" and "underline" but the word choice sounded best with what I have there now, so I kept it.
