I hate to mean you.

by Ann Lauren

I hate to mean you.
I'm mining to leave you behind
to break you from my bones.

Maybe this is comfort,
that I get to keep my sunshine,
even in your city.
You get your girl, my happy ending.

because I'm writing a new one
to replace what I gave away in dust on mixed tapes
and dandelion seeds across the States.
