Leave the Lights and Radio on Please

by Jane E Pearce

Don't turn off the radio-

the music tells me how

to find an aquamarine september

when I need it- to dance, eyes closed,

with a scarf twirling around

the clouds, and heart beats

of old loves clicking to the rhythm.

.

Leave the lights on-

I have to see what raps

at the door in slithery shadows

to invite me to waltz

to september's aquamarine song,

that tells of white crosses

row on row, waiting for us all.
