My Brother

by Thomas K. Hunt

I've had to labor at this life of mine
Like many others
I've struggled with time
The time away from my brother.

While growing he was my idol
Proud to say "that's my bro"
My hero so recognizable
I'd let everyone know.

I'd watch him in his talents
I'd think "that's me some day"
Twenty-nine runs like a deer
I couldn't wait to play

He kept me warm on a winter day
His knowledge of life and his caring way
He taught me things that just he and I know
Those things I treasure wherever I go

I stood proud with him by my side
The day I took my loving bride
A river of trust runs through our veins
An unconditional love that will always remain

But years apart have forced an ache
By decisions, I had to make
Settling just to hear his voice
Sometimes I wonder about my choice

It's been a battle these many years
One that has had its fill of tears
But through it all, he's been in me
He's my brother and always will be

I have five brothers and sisters...some I see pretty regularly and some that I don't...no matter the distance, dear family is in our hearts but it does create an ache that you speak of here...I like this heartfelt poem about that...be nice if you two could get together and have a wonderful visit.
