pretty words for sex

by Wendy Geal

You've laid me out like a pile of bones,
I am useless anymore
You have taken the meat and fed yourself off of
the iron-rich flesh, I should be used to it
I packed it up myself at seventeen
The days are gone when
Men were the marrying type.
Animal to man, man to animal
Once more
I finally tore down the steel
That shut me out and let you in
that laid me down and let you have at me
With no exchange but a few pretty words
That I don’t hear anymore

Yes, beauty and joy are not sustained by the words.
