Butterfly Wind

by Alison McKenzie

Tender new shoots blossom in this late summer,
Fragrant tendrils reaching toward a setting sun,
Near autumn orange misty moon lullabies…
But slumber will not come;
Only the hazy dreamland
Of wistful longings and soft skinned caresses of a new enchantment.

I am beautiful in ocean eyes of wizened laugh lines.
I am precious in hands of love extended.
I am treasured in a love worn chest,
Heart quickening in my embrace,
Muscles taut in symphony strings quivering.
I am slow to simmer,
Savoring the languid remnants of a season nearly gone.
I am the light in the lamp of your smiling beacon
Come to guide your journey'd vessel home.

Don’t miss me,
Just remember the days to come,
Forming, now, on the wings of a butterfly wind
So delicately emerges,
This soothing breeze,
Destiny’s dance of you and I,
Found at last
In the tender shoots of late summer blossom.

I love this. The symbolism and metaphors are excellent, and the whole of the poem made me feel like it was a lush warm summer day... not that that's a stretch, but... I'm pretty sure it was the poem. lol

This delicate poem is much needed during such a long, cold winter. I feel warmer already. The language is just beautiful, so vivid and balmy. Congrats on POTD! A great choice.

I REALLY love your style Alison. Almost everytime I read soemthing of yours, I say to myslef, "why don't you get lost in the moment like you use to and write from those words that wander through our minds". You really do inspire me to write!
