blessed are the angry daughters

by Lauren Singer

blessed are those
that sit sedentary
holding pillows to their chests,
crying at commercials and obituaries
of strangers in newspapers.

and blessed are those rarer types
that take those pillows and throw them against walls
pretending that soft cushioned blows
would be the broken bones of their fathers.

and blessed are those
that wished for something more
than a blank expression
and unsaid reply
to a stifled "i love you"
from the mouth of a man
she would never believe.

and by blessed, i suppose i mean
God help.

me.

There is something so honest and raw in this poem, something heartbreakingly beautiful.
