this line is for life-changing,
a rearranging,
of priorities.
and


you gotta go in …
to find out.


change: the only constant,
is a heel-nipper, ever-walking in your shadow,
and though you turn, it’s gone, never to be seen
by you.


but, it’s the only thing others see,
this changing in you.


from whence, to now do they notice
a pound here, a pinch of flab there,
slowed moves and wrinkles galore.

noticed too, is your hardened heart
made tough from years of angst
that slowly evolved to ennui.

beauty, love, soul, to some just words for poets
as you check each day off the calendar
of earthly commitment.

i know you’re waiting for the universe
to smile upon you,
never noticing its forever-cheshire grin.
