mama told me...

by Charlie Morgan

that when she says no, she means no.
and that should apply to all women,
at all times, at every place,
in every situation, ad infinitum.

i just thought she meant her rules,
i couldn't hear the rest, they were girls.

all those girls in high school and college
said no first, then no again, but quieter,
and then they said nothing, instead
swallowed my tongue and panted.

a catch-22 shrinks ever-tighter until
the carotid of mankind suffers from it's
own suffrage of self promotion and
gratification, at our own life's expense.

our own senses, dulled like a rusty epee,
our black hole lighthouse, only reflections.

Charlie, this is exceptionally well done! I love it. How often have we all been in such situations? Only twice have I been in the opposite position of having to say no to someone 20 years my junior or someone other wise too close.
