when snakes walked

by Charlie Morgan

such a time, a kid-at-the-circus time,
you could see his neck protrude from
his brooks brothers pin-stripe.

making an inaudible swish-swish
as he strolls by headed for one more
lunch, one more brokered deal
while a family of four await
godot, and Jesus.

a slight saunter bursts the air
while his cole-haan leather-soles
skip on the sidewalk to his
office nirvana 15 stories
in the clouds of greed and avarice
and he smiles down
and thinks:

it's as it should be.
