from then to now

by Stephanie Myers

only differences between then and now are two towers falling;
another land,
foreign soil,
no home field advantage for the winning team,
but are we?

our Bush called leader they have to follow,
lest it be one more shot fired in the name of honor.
eyes wiped clean like the blackboard in 3rd grade,
no more names of the misbehaving listed,
minding their manners and surviving the fittest,
only terror stricken with the power of an M16.

Explosions – Implosions – Emotional Deconstruction

revoke our freedom of self incrimination,
hold our tongues; dam our words from pouring,
reign with terror and protect the self righteous from,
over exposure,
hide our right to be individual clouded by a shroud of lies.

storms of sand suffocate lungs standing protected,
firmly balanced by fear and pride.
a country no longer ashamed of its protectors,
not like past “baby killers’ and spit baths,
but, proudly displaying ribbons and signs,
surrounded by blue, red and white.

a counter kept running when the dead travel home,
another slot made on the 9 o’clock news,
but who’s counting?
who do the little ones turn to when mother or father, sister or brother,
are merely memories lasting?

who can explain a war of politics and political strategy?
dear soldier boy or girl, taking on fire while waiting for a successful negotiation?
another corpse left waiting for answers that came too late.
roasted wind dissolves tears of yesterday’s hero,
burning flesh and exposing bone crushed by power.

midnight skies glow from exploding stars showering rusted desert mountains,
by the light of the early dawns’ rise, evidence from the night’s destruction disappear
with the first breaks yawn.

just another memory from the now into the past.

Author's Note: I'm not angry, I just don't agree. I am a supporter, I always have been growing up military, active duty, dependant wife (past tense).
