You Don't Have To Say "Good-Bye"

by Jersey D Gibson

This road is long, I know,
but I walk it anyways.
Things are hard, the going's slow,
but I brush it all away.

I'd walk a mile in hell,
just to see you smile.

I'd wade through the worse,
just to see your eyes.

The times are hard, I know,
but I survive it anyways.
No traffic jams to worry about,
but someday it will get better.

I'd walk over hot coals,
just to see you smile.

I'd swim through deep waters,
just to hear you laugh.

Sunday best, and all the rest;
Life couldn't be better.
So we don't have that right now;
But we can dream.

I've said it tons of times,
and I always mean it.
But I mean it so much more,
now that I'm away.

I'd fight all the bad,
just to feel your arms.

I'd take it all in stride,
just to be with you.

Sunday's best, and all the rest;
My life couldn't be better.
You are there with me,
even when I'm not there.

I promised you,
you'll never have to say,
good-bye.

Author's Note: My last poem for a while folks. I'm off to a sandy place. This is to the woman I love, more than my life. To the rest, catch you on the flip side!

Jersey, thank you for one last look at the wonderful words that steal so many of our hearts and minds. There will be more - I know for that for sure. That's one lucky woman to be able to read these words.
