Lyn Lifshin, Poet

by Michael Faraday

Over a hundred books
anthologies
does not get any easier
halted submissions
the poet is
a poet
and so
rejection
is
rejection
squirrels, cats, glass, and wood
Thank God
for Ballet
Ballet at 8am
Ballet at the Metro
Ballet is life
coffee
fresh ground coffee
time lapses
no laptop
spiral bound

I enjoyed reading this, it flows so effortlessly. This is exactly what it is, that moment when nothing else exists except you and your thoughts. Great read :)

well, besides the fact that i've been reading tons of lifshin in the last week or so, i think this poem captures the the miracle of her prodigious output in a very unique sort of homage. could i have said that more clumsily? oh, well. good poem and plenty of coffee.

I love it! Well-done tribute to the "Queen of the Small Presses", in her style, no less. Now you have to read my poem, "Why I'll Never Catch Up with You, Lyn Lifshin" (in my "On Poets and Poetry" folder).... d:-)
