the calmness of the chaos

by Kimberly Bare

I never imagined I could miss such noise.

That I'd be left disconcerted
by silence.

A little peace,
I foolishly believed,
is what I would find among this respite.

Yet I am now
willing to trade a month of Sundays
for one day full of
"Mom, she's looking at me again!"

Author's Note: My kids spend the majority of the summer months with their Father's side of the family, and I am always caught off guard with how much I miss them. Thank you, Mr. McKnight, for the wonderful phrase/title which describes it so well!
