fishy tales

by Peter Humphreys

The master angler
rides the waves,
the ferocious rivers,
casts and spins
in wide sweeps of freedom,
power and skill:
tales to make the home
hair curl,
of moments lost,
of seconds in danger.

He is preparing for the fray,
when his wife will bite
her nails
and pray for his return
replete.

Meanwhile, the goldfish
avoid his attentions.
The cat plays
with the end of his shark rod.
His wife calls him in for dinner
and reality bursts upon him.
In the wind,
his rusty umbrella
tipples over.

Gorgeous representation of unrealised dreams - nice hook, clean catch...
