Emerging from the Slaughterhouse by Aaron BlairI dreamed that everything was beautiful
and nothing hurt. The sky did not let fall
bombs or fire, but clear drops of rain
evaporated from perfect blue oceans.
There was no love, just a placidness
of feeling, a calm to settle over us,
like a blanket. And we hid under it,
shutting out the world and all its
brightness, all its terrible noise. 07/20/2005 Author's Note: Thank you, Mr. Vonnegut. You've made Indiana cool.

Posted by Rula Shin on 07/21/05 at 02:26 AM "we hid under it,
shutting out the world and all its
brightness, all its terrible noise" - yes, a world within a world, for as you say so meaningfully, this external world is filled with so much noise, and our minds too are so cluttered and filled with noise, but we can only begin to understand the power of silence from within when we can practice it, and we can practice best at first when we isolate ourselves from the noise external. Well, that's what I saw in this. I like the opening lines, "I dreamed that everything was beautiful
and nothing hurt" - yes, we occupy one dream world...but it is when we SEE it is a dream that we enter another, higher plane of awareness where things we thought were impossible before, now seem so simple. I really like the soft suggestion of moving away from the "slaughterhouse". Wonderful writing :-) |
Posted by Rula Shin on 07/21/05 at 02:28 AM what i mean in the last line is the juxtaposition that "emerging from the slaughterhouse" has against the poem itself which is soft. |

shutting out the world and all its
brightness, all its terrible noise.' Yes, as rula said, creating a world within this world, a private world, peaceful and so full of meaning.
