senses and memory

by Bet Yeldem

i have read about long kisses wet and warm
but that’s not the way i knew them
his cold tongue always made me smile
like a child who’d discovered a secret garden
tonight i remembered how
he never finished a glass of sweet tea
without also devouring its ice
and then reaching for me

Author's Note: i started to write a poem, because i couldn't sleep. nothing was working. i suddenly had this flashback moment and decided to write it down... it's not really worth recording here, but i'm doing it anyway... chalk it up to sleep deprivation.

i like the cadence and syntax of this piece. short and sweet, though not terribly original. i even like the internal rhyme, which is rare for me. hm. i'm not altogether sure exactly how i feel. more to come.
